Profile of Bishop Dr. Abraham Chigbundu
He was born in a relatively small village of Ahiaba Okpuala in the present Isiala-Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State to Elder & Mrs. Gabriel Chigbundu Njoku on the 1st of May, 1954.
Predestinated to confront and surmount challenges, his first encounter was an irregular health status at childhood. Too often critical was his health that everyone, except his mother, lost the very hope of his survival. Behind the curtains of life however, were the hands of the Almighty who healed the child in readiness of a buoyant future. Knowing what it felt to suffer, an angry fire against oppression was then lit into his infant soul. So the child grew and obtained the basic education affordable in those days.
His salvation encounter with the Lord Jesus was in 1976 at Sapele, Delta state under the electrifying and evangelistic crusade of Papa Ayo Oritsejafor. While he went on to earn a living, his passion for Christ and commitment to the kingdom of God spoke louder than his gentle voice; he has lived and still shows that “he is first a believer before he is a preacher among men”
As a young man, Dr. Chigbundu pursued a meritorious career with the National Museum, in Benin City where he again observed historical relics of ancestral commitments that would establish bondages. However in 1993, he was compelled to disengage his services with the museum because of the volume of persons that trafficked his home and office in search of counseling and deliverance. The man was therefore fully prepared by God and by his last profession to become one of Africa’s foremost crusaders against demonic bondages and the oppression of the devil.
Groomed in Church of God Mission Int’l Inc., Dr. Chigbundu served the Lord and the pastorate wholeheartedly and without reservations. He led various arms of the church such as the choir, the Drama and the youth arm of Church of God Mission International, Ivbiotor Branch, for many years before in 1982, he got married to his nightingale.
He worked with the Scripture Union as a school Visitor for many years. As an Associate Traveling Secretary, he ministers and rendered counseling in several tertiary institutions such as Universities, Colleges of Education, Schools of Nursing and Polytechnics in the then Bendel state, of Nigeria. This he did in a volunteer capacity under the Nigeria Fellowship of Evangelical Students, NIFES. He later rose to the position of NIFES sub-zonal Chairman.
Responding to a divine call, Dr. Abraham Chigbundu was welcomed into a fellowship that God has now gloriously upgraded into a household name, the Voice of Freedom Ministries. This church with the International Headquarters in Benin City, Nigeria has truly taken the Gospel to the world. This great and humble servant of God has practically taken the message of our Lord Jesus Christ to all the continents of the world. He is a vastly traveled Preacher. It wasn’t therefore surprising when in 1994, the very Arch-Bishop Benson Idahosa responded to his emerging profile by conferring on him with a Ph.D, Practical Theology, Honorary Causa.
By older minister, Dr. Chigbundu is a pride and an example of a strong ministry index for the church in a near future. With younger ministers, he had a media’s heart to connect them to their stardom. As an astute kingdom statesman, Dr. Chigbundu receives, ministers and interacts with Nigerians of all political, social, and economic linings. He is truly an AMBASSADOR OF PEACE.
Dr. Chigbundu is the Deputy President, Edo state Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and a prominent Director of the Global Network of Christian Leaders, an international pastoral connectivity association of great renown.
A voracious reader and fine Christian intellectual, Dr. Chigbundu proceeded further to an on-the-job training in Singapore where he graduated from the famous Haggai Institute, an international clergy refresher institute of research and training.
He is author of several books such as Loose Him and Let Him Go, I Believe in Deliverance, Wicked Times and Seasons, Witchcraft Manipulations Exposed, Achievers Secrets, Developing Another Spirit, From Story to Glory and Learning in the School of Marriage, Altar versus Altars, Spiritual Checkpoint etc.
He is happily married to Rev. Mrs. Florence Chigbundu, and this celebrity union is blessed with four energetic boys – Emmanuel, Faith, Mike and David.
